Fire claims two buildings
A fire swept through downtown Austin yesterday, destroying two buildings. Firefighters from Austin, MacGregor and Gladstone battled the blaze for more than six hours.
“This was one of the more challenging ones,” Austin Fire Chief Gerry Currie said. “We were trying protect the rest of the buildings.”
The call came in around 11 a.m., and Currie said when they arrived on Second Avenue, flames were visible from inside Kathy’s Beauty Salon.
